The Baumanns live in a typical ranch-style house, with an open-concept living-dining area and kitchen. But, with a family of 6, they needed to have more flexibility in these spaces—there was no eating counter, and there was an awkward 1/2 wall between the dining and living areas. The cabinets were also outdated, and there was a very small pantry. They also needed a more organized mudroom space between the garage and kitchen, which had been a laundry, and just became a dumping ground for boots, coats and backpacks.

Our design removed the 1/2 wall, created an eating/work counter for 5, with a seamless, quartz counter from the kitchen side to the barstool side. This area was delineated with pendant lights over the work counter.

Created a much larger pantry with sliding barn doors.

The mudroom was also a huge improvement, with cubby storage for boots and shoes, a bench for taking off footwear, easy to hang hooks for kid’s coats, and upper, closed storage for off-season items. This was all finished off in a beautiful, hickory wood built-in unit, giving it all some enclosure and structure.
